I followed my friend Jim into work today. It wasn’t hard; he was carrying a dozen donuts. I assumed his office was having a pre-holiday-at-work “goody” day or breakfast. And I was wrong. “Actually,” he said. “I brought these for the guards.” He figured they had to watch food for office parties carted in every day and thought it would be nice to bring in something just for them.
Wow. Grateful, Jim, for your thoughtfulness. It really made my day to see kindness in action. On a personal note, I’m also grateful for the brilliant example of how we can’t really assume we know another person’s motivation for his or her behavior. Thanks!
