I re-positioned this mask carving yesterday when I stopped to really examine its miniaturized artistry and detail. I’m grateful for the native cultures who keep their mythology alive and expand my world. Whenever I see a Raven, I know I’m looking at a trickster, but one who also transforms and creates and brings messages. That symbol is welcome on my wall.
This miniature mask was carved by Artie George from the Vancouver area (Coast Salish or Pacific Northwest). It’s an exquisite little piece of art in the Coast Salish style. For me, though, it’s also a reminder that the things I do have consequences. And hopefully, as in Raven’s case, whatever I do will wind up benefiting the world.
