365 Grateful: the state of our roots

I pulled an offending tree, yet wee small, from my garden today. I winced as I did it. The tree meant no harm, growing as it did, in an area where, in truth, it had little chance to thrive.

Its roots already were intricate, interwoven, already strong though the tree itself was very small.

I believe we are all interconnected in this world though we humans like to think we are superior. Our own roots are the same, if we but allow them to be. Intricate, interwoven, seeking, learning, supporting, always questing and reaching deep, deep for grounding so we might climb to great heights, greater wisdom, and new experiences.

Ah, if only we had the intelligence of the earth, we might take better care of it … or should I say, take better care of it and ourselves because – like it or not – we are part and parcel of the whole fabric of creation. And as goes the earth, so goes humanity. Take heed.
